The third day of racing at the U23 World Rowing Championships saw three Irish crews compete in their semi-finals. The Men’s Double Sculls secured a place in the A Final, while the Women’s Double Sculls and Men’s Four progressed to the B Finals. These results add to the two A Finals and one C Final already secured by Irish crews earlier in the week.
BW2x | Izzy Clements & Anna Keating
The Irish Women’s Double Sculls were unable to secure a place in the A Final following a challenging semi-final. They reached the 500 metre mark in sixth place but by the halfway point had drawn level with Brazil and were applying real pressure. By 1000 metres, they had moved into fifth and continued to push, closing the gap to fourth-place Lithuania to just one length. The crew will now race in tomorrow’s B Final.
B Final: Saturday 26th July – 12:29pm (Lane 5)
BM4- | O’Neill, Gorman, Dunleavy & McDonnell
The Irish Men’s Four finished fourth in their semi-final, narrowly missing out on a place in tomorrow’s A Final. It was a tightly contested race among the top four crews, with Ireland sitting in fourth at the 1000 metre mark, just one second behind Romania in third. They will now race in tomorrow’s B Final.
B Final: Saturday 26th July – 12:52pm (Lane 3)
BM2x | Martin O’Grady and Donagh Claffey
In an extremely close semi-final of the Men’s Double Sculls, the Irish crew secured a second-place finish to qualify for the A Final. They held a slight lead in a tightly packed field at the 1000 metre mark before settling into second position. Finishing in a time of 6:15.49, they were less than a second behind the winning crew.
A Final: Saturday 26th July – 2:49pm (Lane 2)
