The 2025 Coupe de la Jeunesse concluded today, Sunday 3rd August, in mostly calm conditions with a slight tailwind helping to produce faster times. The highlight of the day was the Men’s Double claiming a bronze medal, with one other crew racing in an A Final and seven in B Finals.

JM2x | Cian Scannell & Colin Creedon

The Men’s Double won a bronze medal. A sprint finish in the morning’s heat saw them take second and qualify for the final. They were sixth at the first 500 metres but had moved up to fourth by the 1000 metre mark. A strong sprint finish saw them overtake the Netherlands to secure the bronze medal with a time of 6:43:62.

JM1x | Sam Wheeler O’Brien

Sam, in the Men’s Single Scull, finished fifth in the A Final. He produced a big sprint finish in his heat this morning to take third and qualify for the A Final. In the first 1000 metres of the final, the crews were tightly packed. After the halfway mark, Sam battled with Switzerland for fourth but fell short, finishing fifth with a time of 7:21:20.

JM4- | Waters, Villing, Curran & O’Connaire

The Men’s Four finished fifth in the B Final. In their heat, they had a strong battle with Belgium and Czechia at the halfway point but fell short and took fifth. They made a strong start in the B Final but could not keep up with the pace, finishing with a time of 6:31:08, which was an improvement on their heat time.

JM2- | Dominick Cunningham and Darragh Collins

The Men’s Pair finished third in the B Final. In their heat, they held fourth place but could not hold off the Swiss crew’s sprint finish and took fifth. They had a strong finish in the B Final but could not catch the leading two crews, crossing the line in 7:13:20, which was four seconds faster than their heat time.

JM4x | Fahy, Gillard, Morris & O’Mahony

The Men’s Quad finished sixth in the B Final. They placed fourth in their heat after a big sprint to the line but could not catch Austria for third. They completed the B Final in a time of 6:21:28.

JW4x | Guiney, O’Brien, O’Sullivan & O’Flaherty

The Women’s Quad finished fifth in the B Final. They placed fourth in their heat after a big sprint finish. In the final, they held fourth place through the first half of the race but were caught by the Norwegian crew. They crossed the line in 7:06:37.

JW2- | Aida Hehir & Naomi Robertson

The Women’s Pair finished third in the B Final. They had placed fourth in their heat earlier in the day. In the final, they could not keep the pace of the leading pack but secured third place with a time of 8:16:93.

JW4- | McEvoy, McNamara, Bates, Fowler

The Women’s Four finished second in the B Final. In their heat earlier in the day, they moved up from fifth place in the first half to finish fourth. They produced a strong performance in the B Final, moving into second and creating clear water ahead. They crossed the line in 7:14:39.

JM8+ | Wilson (cox), Donaghy, Topping, Bailey, Cassidy, Waters, Villing, Curran & O’Connaire

The Men’s Eight finished second in the B Final. They had placed fourth in their heat earlier in the day. They completed the B Final in 6:05:05, improving on their time from yesterday by six seconds.

Sunday’s Results

Well done to all athletes on an exciting and competitive two days of racing at the Coupe de la Jeunesse. A special thank you to the entire coaching team in Austria for their hard work and support throughout the event.
