There was a slight tailwind on the first day of racing at the World Rowing Cup in Varese, creating fast conditions and quick times on the water. Tiarnán O’Donnell capitalised on the favourable conditions, recording a 15-second personal best in his preliminary heat with a time of 08:41.80 in his preliminary heat.
Due to forecasted adverse weather conditions on Sunday, the original programme has been updated, and the PR2 M1x A Final has been moved to Saturday.

Tiarnán O’Donnell finished first in his preliminary heat at the World Rowing Cup in Varese. Racing in lane 1, traditionally considered a difficult lane, Tiarnán took control from the very start. He established a 10-metre lead by the 500-metre mark and went on to win with a five-second margin over second-place Uzbekistan. He now heads into Saturday’s A Final as a strong favourite.
