Tiarnán O’Donnell delivered a dominant performance at the 2025 World Rowing Cup in Varese, Italy, winning both of his races in the PR2 Men’s Single Sculls (PR2 M1x).

PR2 M1x

Despite the hot conditions, Tiarnán O’Donnell (Lee Rowing Club) remained composed and controlled in the final of the PR2 M1x from the start. He established a lead of 10 to 15 metres within the first 250 metres and continued to build on it, holding a 20-metre advantage over second-place Uzbekistan by the halfway point. He crossed the line with a six-second winning margin, finishing in a time of 08:36.61. This was an improvement of five seconds on his personal best from the preliminary heat and saw him surpass his goal of breaking the 8:40 mark.

This marks Tiarnán’s first gold medal on the international circuit, just one year after making his international debut.

Michelle Carpenter, CEO of Rowing Ireland, commented:

“It’s fantastic to see Tiarnán achieve such success and come away with a gold medal after such a short time in the sport. It’s a true testament to his hard work and dedication.
