Safeguarding in Rowing

RIUB believe that we and our clubs have a duty to promote a positive experience and safeguard children from abuse or poor practice. By encouraging all clubs to implement the RIUB guidelines we believe that everyone in rowing will benefit – children, parents/guardians and coaches.

What club’s should do

In Northern Ireland the Club framework for safeguarding standards in sport provides clubs with a self assessment checklist document for sport. This is based on the Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety (DHSSPS) sponsored document for the voluntary sector called Getting It Right. For those clubs in the Republic of Ireland they can use the framework as a guideline.

To support clubs in implementing best practice the RIUB have produced the following pro-forma.

Codes of Conduct This document provide samples for;

a) Young People (rowers under 18)

b) Guidelines for Parents

c) Coaches/volunteers

Reporting forms, these are sample forms to be used when recording and reporting on to the
