We currently have an important vacancy on the Board of Rowing Ireland. As the Senior Independent Non-Executive Director, you will have the opportunity to shape the future of our sports organisation and make a real impact. You will work closely with a diverse Board to develop the organisation in a new era, driving strategy implementation and overseeing good governance.

The Board has identified a need for the following skills:

  • Organisational Change Management
  • People and Culture
  • Senior Board Member

In accordance with the requirements of publicly funded bodies, to meet the 40% representation of each gender, the Senior Independent Director will be a female candidate. We run a comprehensive induction process for all new Board members.

We are looking for applicants who are independent of our sport, perhaps even unfamiliar with our sport, who will join the Board and contribute to collectively question, challenge, and discern to make even better decisions. We are looking for applicants with senior leadership and Board member skills and a commitment to excellence. Whether or not you have experience in sports management, business, public sector, or a related field, we encourage you to apply.

The current Board is made up of 9 Directors, including two independent Directors, and is led by the Chair. Within the Board is a broad range of skills and experiences. Our current Board members can be seen on our website https://www.rowingireland.ie/about-us/board/

Expected Commitment
The Board meets approximately 8 times a year, on a Saturday, Sunday, or Thursday evening, alternating in-person and remote, and holds additional meetings as the situation requires.

Meetings usually take place at Sport Ireland HQ in Blanchardstown, Dublin, at 10am on weekends, or 7:30pm on Thursdays

Occasionally, meetings are held at alternative locations around the island of Ireland.

Expenses are reimbursed in accordance with our Travel & Subsistence Policy (which will be made available, upon request, to applicants).

You will be required to complete Induction Training as arranged by or provided by Rowing Ireland.

It is expected that Independent Directors will join and participate in one or more Committees.

The term is 3 years.
