The second day of the World Championships took place this morning in Shanghai. The morning session saw excellent racing conditions, but the wind picked up in the afternoon. Rowing Ireland had a strong day on the water: the Men’s Double of Fintan McCarthy and Philip Doyle and the Women’s Single of Fiona Murtagh qualified for their semi-finals, while Konan Pazzaia in the Men’s Single advanced to the quarterfinals. The Women’s Double and Women’s Four will both contest B finals later in the week. 

W2x | Mags Cremen & Zoe Hyde 

Zoe Hyde and Mags Cremen finished fourth in their heat of the Women’s Double. They remained in contention with the Individual Neutral Athletes, who finished third, while China claimed the win on home water. Their time of 07:02.25 secures them a place in the B Final. 

B Final: 26th September – 6:29am IST (Lane 2) 

M2x | Fintan McCarthy & Philip Doyle 

Philip Doyle and Fintan McCarthy delivered a commanding performance to win their heat of the Men’s Double. Leading from the start, they crossed the line first in a time of 06:20.67 to qualify for Wednesday’s semi-final. 

Semi-Final: 24th September – 4:11am IST (Lane 3) 

W4- | Natalie Long, Emma Waters, Imogen Magner & Aisling Hayes 

Ireland’s Women’s Four finished fourth in their heat after pushing the Netherlands and Australia all the way. They clocked 06:35.57 and progress to the B Final later in the week. 

B Final: 26th September – 6:45am IST (Lane TBC) 

W1x | Fiona Murtagh 

Fiona Murtagh claimed victory in her heat of the Women’s Single. After an early battle with Spain, she surged into the lead at the 1000-metre mark and maintained control to the finish line. She now moves into the semi-final. 

Semi-Final: 26th September – 5:42am IST (Lane 3) 

M1x | Konan Pazzaia 

Konan Pazzaia produced a strong sprint to take second place in his Men’s Single heat. Third at the 1500-metre mark, he powered past Austria in the closing stages to secure qualification for the quarter-final.
