Introduction to Rowing Course Description
Who this course is for
– People who are new to rowing.
– Parents, club volunteers, and supporters.
– Anyone who wants to help their club and support new rowers.
– You do NOT need coaching experience or rowing knowledge.
What you will learn
– How to help new rowers learn safely.
– Basic rowing technique on the indoor rowing machine.
– How to support the lead coach during sessions.
– Simple activities to make rowing fun for beginners.
– How to make everyone feel welcome and included.
How we teach
We understand people learn in different ways.
– Visual learning – demonstrations.
– Practical learning – trying things out on land.
– Discussion – small group chats and Q&A.
– Written handouts – clear summaries you can take home.
We move at a steady pace. You can take breaks if you need them. You can ask questions at any time. Each course is limited to a maximum of 16 participants to ensure a positive learning experience.
What happens on the day:
– A short welcome and introductions.
– Learning sessions with breaks in between.
– Practical activities in small groups.
– Time to ask questions and get feedback.
– You will never be put on the spot. You can choose your level of participation.
Certification:
– Successful completion of the Introduction to Coaching Course qualifies you as an assistant coach under supervision.
– Please note that assistant coaches are not yet qualified to lead squads independently.
– As you gain coaching experience, you can progress to Level 1 certification.
– Upon course completion, successful Garda/Access NI vetting and completion of a recognised Safeguarding course, you will receive a Certificate of Achievement jointly issued by Rowing Ireland and Sport Ireland Coaching.
