Fiona Murtagh stormed to victory in the Women’s Single Sculls, while just two races later Mags Cremen and Fintan McCarthy added a second gold in the Mixed Double Sculls. 

W1x | Fiona Murtagh 

Fiona Murtagh delivered a sensational performance to win gold in the Women’s Single Sculls. Leading from the early stages, she maintained a two-second advantage over the field for much of the race. In a dramatic finish, Great Britain’s Lauren Henry mounted a late challenge, but a photo finish confirmed Fiona as World Champion in a time of 07:12.27 — just 0.03 seconds ahead. 

Mix2x | Mags Cremen & Fintan McCarthy 

Fintan McCarthy and Mags Cremen added a second gold for Ireland in the Mixed Double Sculls. After winning their heat earlier in the day, the pair produced a powerful performance in the final. They seized the lead at the halfway mark and held off a strong challenge from the Netherlands to claim victory in 06:24.22. Mags and Fintan are the first ever World Champions in this event.

There was also a strong showing from Siobhán McCrohan, who narrowly missed out on a podium finish in the Lightweight Women’s Single Sculls (LW1x), while Tiarnán O’Donnell and Sadhbh Ní Laoighre finished third in the PR2 Mixed Double B Final. 

LM1x | Jake McCarthy 

Jake McCarthy claimed the bronze medal in the Lightweight Men’s Single Sculls final. McCarthy produced a composed and consistent performance, maintaining third position throughout the race and finishing with a powerful sprint to close the gap to second place. He crossed the line with a time of 06:59.07, securing his first-ever Senior World Championship medal. 

LW1x | Siobhán McCrohan 

Siobhán McCrohan finished fourth in the A Final of the Lightweight Women’s Single Sculls. Siobhán was in fifth position behind Austria until the third quarter of the race but moved into fourth by the 1500m mark. She produced a determined finish but was unable to reach the medal positions, crossing the line in 07:37.25. 

PR2 Mix2x | Tiarnán O’Donnell & Sadhbh Ní Laoighre 

The PR2 Mixed Double of Tiarnán O’Donnell and Sadhbh Ní Laoighre finished third in the B Final. The crew maintained their position throughout the race and finished strongly but were unable to catch the Mexican boat ahead. They completed the race in 09:00.35.

Fiona Murtagh continued Ireland’s strong performance, winning her semifinal to reach Sunday’s A Final in the Women’s Single, while several other crews delivered encouraging results in the B and C finals.

The Men’s Double of Fintan McCarthy and Philip Doyle secured a brilliant bronze medal after a determined race. The duo sat in second place for most of the contest, pushing the pace from the early stages. Despite a powerful late surge from Serbia that moved them into second, the Irish crew held on strongly to claim third place with a finishing time of 06:15.13. 

W1x | Fiona Murtagh 

Fiona Murtagh delivered a commanding performance to win her semifinal and qualify for Sunday’s A Final. Leading from the start, Murtagh extended her advantage to three seconds by the 1500m mark and remained the fastest boat on the water in the closing stages. She crossed the line in 07:29.61. 

A Final: Sunday, 28th September – 7:17am IST (Lane 4) 

M1x | Konan Pazzaia 

Konan Pazzaia finished second in the C Final of the Men’s Single. After a tightly packed start that saw him in fifth place at 500m, he steadily moved through the field, climbing to third at 1000m and into second by 1500m. He maintained that position to the line, finishing in 07:04.08.  

W2x | Mags Cremen & Zoe Hyde 

The Women’s Double of Mags Cremen and Zoe Hyde claimed victory in the B Final after a dramatic sprint finish. The pair held second for much of the race amid a close battle with Uzbekistan and the USA. In the final 250 metres, they unleashed a powerful push to move into first place and secure the win with a time of 07:00.20. 

W4- | Natalie Long, Emma Waters, Aisling Hayes & Imogen Magner 

The Women’s Four produced a strong performance to finish third in the B Final. Sitting in fourth place at the halfway point, they surged into third by 1500m and continued to close the gap on second-placed Canada with a spirited sprint to the line. They finished with a time of 06:48.01.

Siobhán McCrohan, Jake McCarthy, and the Men’s Double of Fintan McCarthy and Philip Doyle all impressed in their semi-finals, while the Men’s Pair of Nathan Timoney and Ross Corrigan put in a strong performance to finish sixth in their A Final. 

M2- | Nathan Timoney & Ross Corrigan 

The Men’s Pair of Ross Corrigan and Nathan Timoney finished sixth in their A Final, which featured a highly competitive field. The Irish crew got off to a solid start but found themselves in sixth place by the 500-metre mark. They remained in sixth throughout the race, crossing the line in a time of 07:00.73, securing a spot in the top six in the world. 

LW1x | Siobhan McCrohan 

Siobhan McCrohan won her semi-final in the Lightweight Women’s Single. It was a close race throughout with Siobhan in second place for most of the race behind the favourite from Mexico. A powerful sprint finish saw her overtake Mexico in the closing stages and qualify for Saturday’s A Final with a time of 08:06.23. 

A Final: 27th September – 7:33am IST (Lane 4) 

LM1x | Jake McCarthy 

Jake McCarthy produced an excellent sprint finish to claim third place in the Lightweight Men’s Single semi-final and secure a spot in the A Final. Sitting in fourth throughout much of the race, Jake closed the gap on the leaders after the 1000-metre mark. A determined final push saw him cross the line in third with a time of 07:33.01, just 0.28 seconds ahead of Uzbekistan in fourth, 

A Final: 27th September – 7:50am IST (Lane 1) 

M2x | Fintan McCarthy & Philip Doyle 

The Men’s Double of Fintan McCarthy and Philip Doyle delivered a composed and controlled performance to finish second in their semi-final and book a place in Friday’s A Final. The crew settled into a strong rhythm early on, staying close to the pace set by Romania and comfortably holding second place throughout the race. They crossed the line in a time of 06:33.10.

Meanwhile, weather conditions and issues surrounding lane reallocation resulted in the postponement of the Men’s Double Sculls semi-final. 

PR2 Mix2x | Tiarnán O’Donell & Sadhbh Ní Laoighre 

Tiarnán O’Donell and Sadhbh Ní Laoighre finished fourth in their heat of the PR2 Mixed Double Sculls. The crew fought hard but were unable to match the early pace of the race, holding their position throughout to finish with a time of 09:09.88. They progress to Saturday’s B Final. 

B Final: 27th September – 6:05am IST (Lane 3) 

M1x | Konan Pazzaia 

Konan Pazzaia produced a strong performance in a competitive quarter-final of the Men’s Single Sculls. The race was tightly contested over the first 1000 metres, with Konan battling between fourth and fifth position. A powerful sprint in the final stages saw him secure fourth place with a time of 07:22.07, seeing him progress to the C Final. 

C Final: 26th September – 5:17am IST (Lane 2) 

M2x | Fintan McCarthy & Philip Doyle 

The Men’s Double Scull semi-final featuring Philip Doyle and Fintan McCarthy was postponed due to weather conditions and issues with lane reallocation. It will now take place tomorrow, 25th September at 4:15am IST.

Despite challenging crosswind conditions, Rowing Ireland athletes continued to impress across multiple events. 

LW1x | Siobhan McCrohan

Siobhán McCrohan qualified for the semi-final after a strong third-place finish in her heat. Fourth at the 500m mark, she overtook Uruguay after halfway and closed the gap to second, narrowly missing out by just 0.01 seconds. McCrohan finished in 07:36.98 and will race again in the semi-final. 

Semi-Final: 25th September, 3:37am IST (Lane 5) 

LM1x | Jake McCarthy

Jake McCarthy also progressed to the semi-final, finishing third in his heat. Holding second place through the middle of the race, McCarthy was edged into third in the closing metres by a late sprint from the Chinese sculler. His time of 06:56.65 secures his progression. 

Semi-Final: 25th September, 3:49am IST (Lane 2) 

M2- | Nathan Timoney & Ross Corrigan

Nathan Timoney and Ross Corrigan produced an outstanding final sprint to qualify for the A Final. Sitting fifth with 500m to go, they surged past the Netherlands and South Africa to finish third in their semi-final with a time of 06:29.99. 

A Final: 25th September, 7:44am IST (Lane 

W2- | Emily Hegarty & Aoife Casey

The Women’s Pair of Emily Hegarty and Aoife Casey won the C Final. The pair had a strong race, leading from the start. They finished eight seconds clear of the Individual Neutral Athlete crew, recording 07:24.06. 

M4x | Andrew Sheehan, Adam Murphy, Brian Colsh & Ronan Byrne

The Men’s Quad also claimed victory in their C Final. Second at 500m, they rowed through Croatia and built a decisive lead to win by four seconds, finishing in 05:57.75.

The morning session saw excellent racing conditions, but the wind picked up in the afternoon. Rowing Ireland had a strong day on the water: the Men’s Double of Fintan McCarthy and Philip Doyle and the Women’s Single of Fiona Murtagh qualified for their semi-finals, while Konan Pazzaia in the Men’s Single advanced to the quarterfinals. The Women’s Double and Women’s Four will both contest B finals later in the week. 

W2x | Mags Cremen & Zoe Hyde 

Zoe Hyde and Mags Cremen finished fourth in their heat of the Women’s Double. They remained in contention with the Individual Neutral Athletes, who finished third, while China claimed the win on home water. Their time of 07:02.25 secures them a place in the B Final. 

B Final: 26th September – 6:29am IST (Lane 2) 

M2x | Fintan McCarthy & Philip Doyle 

Philip Doyle and Fintan McCarthy delivered a commanding performance to win their heat of the Men’s Double. Leading from the start, they crossed the line first in a time of 06:20.67 to qualify for Wednesday’s semi-final.

The Men’s Pair have qualified for Tuesday’s semi-final while the Women’s Pair and Men’s Quad have qualified for Tuesday’s C finals. 

The Championships were officially opened with Opening Ceremony taking place after racing. Watch the Opening Ceremony here.

W2- | Emily Hegarty & Aoife Casey 

The Women’s Pair of Emily Hegarty and Aoife Casey finished fourth in their heat with a time of 7:13.17. The pair held a lead on the Individual Neutral Athletes crew. Their time was just outside the semi-final qualifying mark, and they will now race in the C Final. 

C Final: 23rd September – 4:38am IST (Lane 2) 

M2- | Nathan Timoney & Ross Corrigan 

Nathan Timoney and Ross Corrigan finished second in their heat of the Men’s Pair to directly qualify for the semi-final. The crew remained in second behind Romania throughout the race. They responded to a push in the last 200 metres from third place Denmark. 

Semi Final: 23rd September – 3:57am IST (Lane 2) 

M4x | Andrew Sheehan, Adam Murphy, Brian Colsh & Ronan Byrne 

The Men’s Quad finished fourth in their heat with a time of 5:51.97, seeing them progress to Tuesday’s C Final. The Men’s Quad maintained fourth position throughout and mounted a late push on Croatia in the final 500m but missed out on a semi-final spot. 

C Final: 23rd September – 4:50am IST (Lane 2)

Rowing Ireland will be represented by 24 athletes competing across 12 boat classes.  

On Saturday, 20th September, the spares race will take place featuring Claire Feerick (Neptune Rowing Club) and Alison Bergin (Fermoy Rowing Club). Claire and Alison are an important part of the team’s campaign, providing crucial depth and cover in the event of injury or illness. The spares race runs from 4:00 – 5:00am (IST). 

W2- | Emily Hegarty (Skibbereen Rowing Club) & Aoife Casey (Skibbereen Rowing Club)

Emily Hegarty and Aoife Casey will compete in the Women’s Pair (W2-), marking their return to international racing after the 2024 Paris Olympics. This will mark Aoife’s international debut in the heavyweight category. Romania, gold medallists at the 2025 European Championships, are the favourites in this event. There are 16 entries, with heats leading into the semi-finals.

M2- | Nathan Timoney (Queen’s University Belfast Boat Club) & Ross Corrigan (Portora Boat Club)

Nathan Timoney and Ross Corrigan return to the Men’s Pair after an A Final finish at the Paris Olympics. This is Nathan’s first international race since the Games, while Ross raced at the 2024 European Championships. Romania, winners of the European Championships and the World Cup in Lucerne, will be the crew to beat. There are 23 entries, with heats progressing to the semi-finals. 

Heat: Sunday, 21st September – from 3:37am IST 

M4x | Andrew Sheehan (UCC Rowing Club), Adam Murphy (UCC Rowing Club), Brian Colsh (University of Galway Boat Club) and Ronan Byrne (Shandon Boat Club)

The Men’s Quad of Andrew Sheehan, Adam Murphy, Brian Colsh and Ronan Byrne return following the World Cup in Lucerne and will look to build on their performance. Great Britain are the strong favourites, having won gold at the European Championships and World Cup in Lucerne, and bronze in Varese. There are 14 entries, with heats progressing to the semi-finals. 

Heat: Sunday, 21st September – from 4:15am IST 

W2x | Mags Cremen (UCC Rowing Club) & Zoe Hyde (Tralee Rowing Club)

Zoe Hyde and Mags Cremen return to the Women’s Double following strong campaigns at the European Championships and World Cup in Lucerne. They narrowly missed a medal at the Europeans with a fourth-place finish, they will look to build on this result at the World Championships. China, racing on home waters, are favourites after winning both World Cups. With 12 entries in this event, heat will progress to A and B finals. 

Heat: Monday, 22nd September – from 3:47am IST 

M2x | Fintan McCarthy (Skibbereen Rowing Club) & Philip Doyle (Belfast Boat Club)

Olympic medallists Philip Doyle and Fintan McCarthy team up in the Men’s Double. Fintan is a double Olympic champion in the lightweight men’s double, while Philip is an Olympic bronze medallist in this event. Romania, the reigning Olympic champions, will provide tough competition. There are 20 entries, with heats progressing to the semi-finals.  

Heat: Monday, 22nd September – from 3:59am IST 

W4- | Natalie Long (Lee Valley Rowing Club), Emma Waters (University of Galway Boat Club), Imogen Magner (Lee Valley Rowing Club) & Aisling Hayes (Skibbereen Rowing Club)

The Women’s Four combines experience and fresh talent, with Olympians Imogen Magner and Natalie Long joined by newcomers Emma Waters and Aisling Hayes. This will be a highly competitive event, with several podium crews from the 2025 season returning. There are 13 entries, with heats progressing to the semi-finals. 

Heat: Monday, 22nd September – from 4:25am IST 

W1x | Fiona Murtagh (University of Galway Boat Club)

Fiona Murtagh races the Women’s Single following a strong season, winning silver at both the European Championships and World Cup in Lucerne. She will look to close the gap on Great Britain’s Lauren Henry, the dominant sculler this year. There are 20 entries, with heats progressing to the semi-finals. 

Heat: Monday, 22nd September – from 7:05am IST 

M1x | Konan Pazzaia (Queen’s University Belfast Boat Club)

Konan Pazzaia steps into the Men’s Single after success in the Men’s Double at the European Championships and World Cup in Lucerne, where he claimed bronze medals. With 36 entries including all three Olympic medallists, this is one of the toughest fields of the regatta. Heats will progress to the semi-finals. 

Heat: Monday, 22nd September – from 7:31am IST 

LW1x | Siobhan McCrohan (Tribesmen Rowing Club)

Siobhan McCrohan, last year’s World bronze medallist, will race in the Lightweight Women’s Single. She had a strong campaign in Lucerne but narrowly missed a podium finish. The Mexican sculler, unbeaten at both World Cups this year, will be one to watch. There are 20 entries, with heats progressing to the semi-finals.  

Heat: Tuesday, 23rd September – from 3:05am IST 

LM1x | Jake McCarthy (Skibbereen Rowing Club)

Jake McCarthy races the Lightweight Men’s Single following a fourth-place finish at the European Championships. It is a strong field, with Uruguay’s sculler, winner of both World Cups, in top form. There are 16 entries, with heats progressing to the semi-finals. 

Heat: Tuesday, 23rd September – from 3:29am IST 

PR2 Mix2x | Tiarnan O’Donnell (Lee Rowing Club) & Sadhbh Ni Laoighre (Bantry Rowing Club)

Tiarnan O’Donnell and Sadhbh Ni Laoighre return following a third-place finish at the World Cup in Lucerne in the PR3 Mix2x which they were racing for classification purposes. Tiarnan also won gold in the PR2 M1x at the Varese World Cup. There are 10 entries, with heats progressing to A and B finals. 

Heat: Wednesday, 24th September – from 3:05am IST 

Mix2x | Mags Cremen (UCC Rowing Club) & Fintan McCarthy (Skibbereen Rowing Club)

Mags Cremen and Fintan McCarthy will race in the Mixed Double Sculls, marking the first time the event is contested at the World Championships. This official debut has attracted 11 entries, with heats progressing to A and B finals.
