Welcome to the official web-site of the Ulster Branch of the Irish Amateur Rowing Union. The Branch represents the affiliated rowing clubs in Ulster, and representatives sit on the governing body of rowing in Ireland, the Irish Amateur Rowing Union. At present there are 14 clubs within the Branch offering rowing and sculling for juniors - ( 12 years and over )  up to veteran level. The clubs may be school based, university based or independent open clubs.

7 April ULSTER SPORTS TRUST - Information has been sent to schools by the UST regarding the School leavers awards. Applications should be with the Branch by 30th April for Gov Body reports prior to submissions by 11 May. Further details available on request to info@rowingulster.com
 20 March TALENT DEVELOPMENT COACH - the Branch has re-advertised for this position. An application form and a job profile are available by contacting info@rowingulster.com  Completed application forms should be returned by 30th March 07.
16 March SCNI ELITE FACILITIES PROGRAMME - The Ulster Branch IARU has submitted all details for potential applicants wishing to apply for funding under this scheme. The details are available at http://www.sportni.net/elitefacilities/index.htm
12 February JUNIOR TIME TRIALS - Sat 24th February on Newry Canal at 12.00. This is compulsory for all juniors seeking selection for any Junior team, including Home Countries.                                     Entries to Garth Young by email to info@rowingulster.com by 9.00pm on Tues 20 Feb. Entries should include name, address, IARU Reg No, date of birth, rowing class, email for communication prior to Trial.                                                                                        The entry fee is £10.00 - payable on the day.                              Clubs and coaches should ensure that parental / guardian permission has been given for any junior wishing to participate in the trials. Coaches should attend with their juniors.

18 December IARU Umpires Exam - The seminar and exam will be held in Belfast Rowing Club on Saturday 20th January. Any new candidates should contact the Branch at info@rowingulster.com    All renewals should attend also. Rules may be downloaded from www.iaru.ie 
18 December IARU Rules Seminar - Will be held in Belfast Rowing Club on Friday 19th January at 8.00pm. This is for event organisers, club secretaries, coaches etc.

19 September IARU Regional Time trials - the Branch will be holding time trials on Newry Canal on 7th October and 4th November as required by the IARU. Details on http://www.iaru.ie
19 September SPORTS INSTITUTE NI - 6 Workshops are planned from now to May 07 for existing or future performance coaches. The 1st will be on 20th Oct - 4pm -6pm called "Working with Precocious Talent" and will be taken by the British Rowing talent ID guru Peter Shakespeare. 27 August UBIARU JUNIOR DEVELOPMENT CAMP - Will be held from 15th - 17th September and be based at Belfast Rowing Club. The Branch invites juniors from all clubs to attend - male and females aged J16 - J18 in 2007. Information has been emailed to club contacts
25 August UBIARU Annual General Meeting -  Will be held on Sunday 10th September at 3.00pm in Belfast Rowing Club. Information has been emailed to club contacts. Please advise the Branch secretary of any changes in your club contacts.
7 August COMMONWEALTH ROWING CHAMPIONSHIPS 2006 - Team NI had a very successful 2 days at the 2006 Commonwealth Rowing Championships at Strathclyde Park last weekend.  The total medal tally was 6, 1 gold ( a first in rowing), 4 silver and 1 bronze.

23 July U23 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS - Ex Coleraine Inst and Bann Rowing Club rower Richard Chambers won gold for GT Britain in the lightweight 2- at the World U23 Championships in Hazewinkel, Belgium. At the same event Stephen Feeney, also ex CAI and Bann , was placed 6th in the men's lightweight 4-
22 July HOME INTERNATIONAL - Good luck to Nathanial Pollock and Max Humphries - both Methodist College Belfast -  in the junior men's sweep group and Laura D'Urso - City of Derry Boat Club - in the junior womens sculling group at the Home International Regatta to be held at Strathclyde Park. Neill Thompson - MCB is attending as a junior coach.

10 July GOLD FOR RICHARD - The Irish lightweight 4- with Ricahard Archibald won the final of the Rowing World cup in Lucerne and so became the first Irish crew to win the Rowing World cup series outright. Another Coleraine Academical Institution former pupil - Alan Campbell - won the World Cup titlel in the single sculls for Great Britain. 
10 July IRISH ROWING CHAMPIONSHIPS - Good luck to all Ulster Branch clubs taking part in the Championships at the National Rowing Centre in Cork this weekend.
25 June HENLEY ROYAL REGATTA - Belfast Rowing Club B crew has qualified for the Wyfold Challange Cup and the  Queen's University crew has qualified for the Prince Albert Challange Cup. Good luck to all crews competing at Henley 2006.
17 June RESULTS POZNAN - Richard Archibald ( Lady Victoria BC) was in the Irish LM4- which won gold in the 2nd leg of the Rowing World Cup in Poznan at the weekend.
7 June BOAT RACE DAY 10 JUNE -  Schools racing from 11.00 between MCB and RBAI. The Lomac tiles University Boat race between Queen,s University and Dublin University starts at 1.00. Venue - River Lagan with viewing from Ormeau Embankment to Stranmillis .

25 April ENTRIES - Please ensure when making entries for regattas that all details are given on the entry form -  particularly the names of single scullers. Regatta Secretaries cannot publish the draw until this information is available. Ref Rule 11 Rules for Competitive Rowing.

17 April REGISTERED KIT / BLADES - Clubs are reminded they must ensure their members race in the registered club kit and blades must be in the registered club colours. Fines may be issued by the IARU for Clubs in breach of these regulations.
14 April IARU REGISTRATION / LICENCES - All Ulster Branch athletes are reminded that they must be registered with the IARU for whatever club they wish to represent at events. Athletes must also hold a paid up licence - check with your club Secretary.
9 April WIN £10.000.00!! -  Portadown Boat Club are holding a draw to raise funds for a new Boat House. The draw will be made on the day of the regatta - 5th May 2006. Tickets can be purchased from Ted Dunlop, c/o 10 Lynden Gate,  Portadown , BT63 5YH

12 March IARU SELECTION - The Branch has nominated the following athletes to attend the !st National selection Regatta on March 24-26th - Richard Archibald, Martin Campbell, Stuart  Wilson, Max Humphries, Nat Pollock, Orlagh Duddy, Heather Armstrong, Laura D'Urso, Alice Moffitt and Gwen McCormick.
3 March NI Coach Awards - At the award ceremony last night David Storrs was runner-up in the Men's Senior Club Coach Award. He had been nominated by Queen's University Belfast Boat Club.
27 February COMMONWEALTH REGATTA - Athletes involved in the time trials held on 19th February on the Lagan should have received an e-mail informing them whether or not they have been invited to the the squad session planned for the Sunday after Erne Head in Enniskillen. 2 November COACHING CLINIC - Saturday 12th November in the Queen's University P E Centre from 1.00pm to 4.00pm. The National coach - Harald Jahrling and the Assistant National coach - Debbie Fox will both be attending and will deal with - training programmes, rowing technique and talent identification.

2 November CLUB REPORTS - Clubs are reminded to get reports to the Branch Secretary as soon as possible to be included in the Annual Report.  No later than 22nd November.
31 October BRANCH AGM - The Branch Annual General Meeting will be held on Sunday 27th November at 3.00pm in Lagan Water Sports. Details  - agenda and minutes - have been sent to each Club. Clubs can have 1 official representative, but any number can attend.

28 October SAFETY- Clubs, coaches and crews should be aware of basic safety requirements. Ensure boats are sound and safe. Be able to be seen in the dark - have  bow and stern lights. Coxed boats should have coxes. Crews should be properly dressed for the weather. Please see section on safety
27 October COMMONWEALTH ROWING CHAMPIONSHIPS -  Applications to represent N Ireland at the 2006 regatta closed on 30th September. Please note that NO FURTHER applications should be submitted.   Athletes who submitted applications by 30th September will be written to by the Rowing Convenor regarding trials etc.
5 October COACHING CLINIC - The IARU Head Coach, Harald Jahrling is planning to hold coaching clinics in Dublin, Limerick, Galway & Belfast. The provisional date for Belfast is Saturday 12th November. Details to follow.
4 October UMPIRES EXAM -A seminar for new candidates will be held on Sunday 23rd October at 3.00pm in Belfast Boat Club. Exams  will be held -                                      Enniskillen  - Portora School at 7.30pm on Friday 2nd December                                                                         Belfast - Belfast Boat Club at 10.00am on Saturday 3rd December.
30 September An INTRODUCTORY COACHING COURSE course is planned for 19th November 2005 in Enniskillen. Clubs should contact the IARU office at info@iaru.ie with names before 21st October. The cost will be £25.00 excluding food.

2 September Congratulations to Richard Archibald - QUBBC -  on winning a silver medal in the Men's Lightweight 4- at the World Championships in Gifu in Japan in August.

Congratulations to Stephen Feeney and Richard Chambers  - both former Bann juniors - on winning a silver medal in the Men's Lightweight 4x at the World U23 Championships in Holland in July.

28 July Reminder!  Applications from athletes wishing to be considered for the 2006 Commonwealth Rowing Championships to represent N Ireland should be returned by 30th September 2005 at 5.00pm.
13 July Good luck to all Ulster Branch clubs competing in this weekend's I.A,R.U. Championships in Cork.
11June All clubs should be competing in their registered club colours - ie KIT and BLADES -  check at www.iaru.ie  what your club's registered details are. It has been noted at several events certain Clubs are using blades which were painted green for international representation. 
3June The Ulster Branch Committee will be applying to the Sports Council ( lottery fund) for assistance towards the 2006 Commonwealth Championships. In addition, private sponsorship will be sought  - any clubs with contacts interested in assisting the squad, should contact the Branch at info@rowingulster.com
